Ex-internacional brasileiro faleceu na madrugada de domingo aos 57 anos. Veja no vídeo o génio do ex
O ex-futebolista Sócrates morreu na madrugada deste domingo no Hospital Albert Einstein, em São Paulo, vítima de uma septicemia. Antigo atleta do Corinthians e da Seleção canarinha tinha 57 anos e deixa seis filhos.
Sócrates estava internado deste quinta-feira à noite devido a uma infecção intestinal causada por uma bactéria. Estava nos Cuidados Intensivos e com suporte de respiração assistida, sendo a sua condição anunciada como muito grave.
Foi o terceiro internamento do antigo atleta nos últimos quatro meses. Nas situações anteriores tinha estado hospitalizado devido a complicações associadas ao consumo excessivo de álcool e esteve submetido a tratamentos no sentido de se poder submeter a um transplante de fígado.
Depois de uma dessas passagens pelo hospital Sócrates negou ser dependente de álcool, mas assumiu que "bebia mais" por causa da sua "timidez" e da sua "dificuldade de relacionamento". "O álcool era uma companhia, assim como o cigarro é para muita gente, até mesmo para mim", dizia. "É um companheiro para poder conviver bem com parte da loucura que é essa sociedade que a gente vive hoje", notava também.
A carreira de futebolista de Sócrates começou no Botafogo em 1974 numa altura em que ainda era estudante de Medicina. Acabou por ser contratado pelo Corinthians no fim da década de 70, tornando-se ídolo da torcida. Apontou 172 golos pelo clube tornando-se no oitavo maior goleador da história do Corinthians.
Em 1984 foi vendido para a Fiorentina, de Itália, mas não teve grande sucesso no futebol europeu. Jogou ainda no Flamengo e no Santos.
Na seleção Brasileira foi figura de destaque ao lado de Zico e Falcão na canarinha que participou no Mundial de 1982. O Brasil acabou por ser eliminado pela Itália, mas muitos consideram que aquela foi uma das melhores equipas canarinhas de todos os tempos.
Em 2004 foi selecionado pela FIFA para a lista dos 125 melhores jogadores vivos da história do futebol.
Fora dos relvados, Sócrates revelava consciência política, sendo admirador de Fidel Castro e tendo participado na campanha por eleições diretas no Brasil, no início da década de 80. Também foi figura presente na chamada Democracia Corintiana que levou à participação dos jogadores nos atos de decisão do clube, algo que até então não acontecia.
